Library Service update

Library space

Services available increased in our libraries this month!

More computers are now available and you can pay for additional time and printing. There are tables and chairs available for study use, and the little chairs are back in our children’s libraries! You can still borrow up to 20 books so you don’t have to make as many trips to the library. Request charges have been reinstated.

Learn more about current services on the Virtual Library. Measures remain in place to help ensure the safety of customers and staff. Please continue to respect others’ space, wear a face covering if you can, and remember not to visit a library if you have symptoms of COVID-19.

Mobile Library

Mobile library

Our mobile library has been out in the borough for Select and Collect for a while, but this week it opened its doors and welcomed customers aboard once again!

Visit the mobile library to browse the shelves, choose some books, and borrow them using the self-service machine. Maybe pick up some good reading material for these cold, dark nights! Remember to bring your mobile library card and check the timetable for stop dates.

There’s a limit on the number of customers inside the vehicle at once, and measures remain in place to help ensure the safety of everyone on board. Please continue to respect others’ space, wear a face covering if you can, and remember not to visit the mobile library if you have symptoms of COVID-19.

Bedfordshire Heritage Library

Heritage Library user

The Bedfordshire Heritage Library reopened for Tuesday appointments this week.

The Bedfordshire Heritage Library holds items from the local history collection that are rare, valuable or delicate and are of particular historical significance. There are local newspapers going back to 1845, town and county directories, and early journals and magazines, such as The Wasp.

Customers can book an appointment by calling or visiting Bedford Central Library. Measures remain in place to help ensure the safety of customers and staff. Please continue to respect others’ space, wear a face covering if you can, and remember not to visit if you have symptoms of COVID-19.

Remember your library card

App

Please remember your library card every time you visit the library. You need it to borrow items on the self-service machine or if you want to discuss your account with staff. If you’ve lost your library card you can talk to staff about getting a new one.

You can download our app and have your library card on your smartphone. Search for ‘Bedfordshire Libraries’ in your app store, then enter the details to get set up. You can add your children’s library cards too so they’re all in one place. The app is also useful for searching the catalogue and requesting titles, as well as renewing your items to avoid overdue charges.

Learn more about the app on the Virtual Library.
