A New Maquette of Amy Walmsley Joins our Great Bedfordians Gallery

To mark International Women’s Day yesterday, a brand new maquette of Amy Walmsley was placed on display in the Great Bedfordians Gallery.

Amy Walmsley (1868-1928) was a suffragist who fought for women’s right to vote, became Bedford’s first female councillor in 1922, was a teacher and an educational reformer who set up schools in Bedford. Come along for a visit and learn more about Amy Walmsley and her work.

The maquette was commissioned by Women of Bedford and was created by sculptor Diane Gorvin.

Science Lab returns to The Higgins Bedford this Saturday in celebration of British Science Week with free activities for families to enjoy.

Activities are inspired by the theme growth and include exploring local wildlife and plants, building bug houses and finding out all about the Rutland Sea Dragon (ichthyosaur) that was discovered in 2021.
