Rediscover Bedford at Christmas with Bedford Borough Council’s not to be missed events in the town centre.
Christmas in Bedford Borough begins on Saturday 19th November, with a Christmas event in Harpur Square and along Midland Road. There will be a host of exciting activities taking place, including live music, free rides for children with Gumbles Amusements and festive food, drink and shopping at a seasonally enhanced Charter Market.
Then at 4.30pm in Harpur Square, the switching on of the lights by Mayor Dave Hodgson will illuminate Bedford Town Centre, signalling that the Christmas period is officially here.
The merriness continues on Saturday 10th & Sunday 11th December with The Christmas Town Market, which the Council is holding in collaboration with BedfordBID and Made in Bedford. Over the weekend, there will be local artists and makers with artisanal gifts and decorations on offer accompanied by festive cheer provided by local bands and choirs.
The Christmas Town Market will also have free train rides between Silver Street Square and Midland Road on the Love Bedford Express. Gumble’s Amusements will once again be returning to offer free rides for children and Santa’s Grotto will be taking place in the Harpur Centre.
From 1st December, Bedford Borough Council will also be sharing daily activities that you can take part in with their Christmas Advent Calendar, so be sure to follow Bedford Borough Council’s social media channels to get ideas for some magical merry adventures.

Recruitment is now open for two talented National Management Trainees (NMT’s) living, working or studying in Bedford to join the Council from autumn 2023 on a two-year fixed-term contract, with a starting salary of £28,371 per annum.

The Higgins Bedford is hosting an anniversary display, Texas Instruments to Bourns in Bedford: 75 years of Technological Innovation, exploring the early years of the Texas Instruments site at Manton Lane, and its transition and takeover by Bourns in 2000.
Over the last 22 years, Bourns have continued to drive technological innovation in Bedford continuing to manufacture state of the art semi-conductor wafers, which can be found in a range of business and domestic products including mobile phones, cars and vacuums.
Come and enjoy reminiscing over Texas Instruments products such as Speak and Spell, Little Professor and hand-held calculators and laptops. Learn more about the semi-conductor wafers and products created by Bourns today and how they are used. Watch the film of Bourns employees speaking about their long-service with the company, what it was like working there over the decades to the present day.
The display continues until the end of June 2023 and is free to visit.
