12-15 Year Old Vaccinations

This autumn all children aged 12 to 15 years are being offered the first dose of the COVID-19 vaccination. Vaccinating children should help to reduce the need for children to have time off school and to reduce the risk of spread of COVID-19 within schools.

The COVID-19 vaccination programme in secondary schools will therefore provide protection to children who are vaccinated and help to reduce disruption to face to face education this winter.

Children who are 12 years old and over on the day the School Age Immunisation Service (SAIS) team visits the school, will be offered a vaccination as part of the in-school vaccination programme.

If your child is educated at home, you will be contacted by the SAIS team who will arrange appointments to dispense the vaccination.

If you are concerned that your child may not be registered please check with your local education department, and make sure they are included in the programme.

Vaccination Sites

COVID-19 vaccinations are still available for anyone who has yet to receive them.

Over 16s can visit a walk-in site – where no appointment is needed, or book via the National Booking System.

A free taxi service is also available to take people to and from the Bedford Borough COVID-19 vaccination sites.

If you are over 18 you will be due your second dose if you had your first COVID vaccination on or before 5 August.

Ampthill Road

Works began on Ampthill Road in May 2021, to deliver major improvement works.

These include widening the road, creating a second northbound lane between Elstow Road and Britannia Road for buses and Ultra Low Emission Vehicles, and improving provision for vehicles turning right into side roads off Ampthill Road – helping traffic flow better and easing congestion.

Alongside this, traffic signals are being improved along the route and new electronic message signs and average speed cameras installed.

So far, extensive road widening works have been completed on the southern section of the works between Sexton Avenue and Evans Halshaw and changes to the pedestrian crossing near Sexton Avenue have been completed.

Improvements and a new pedestrian island have been installed at Technology House, and new traffic signals installed for the crossing here too.

Works to deliver traffic signal improvements are ongoing with ducts laid across both side of the railway bridge near the B530, and between Morrison’s and the B530. New streetlights and signposts have also been installed between Britannia Road and Elstow Road.

Various sections of the cycleway and pavement have been resurfaced between Morrison’s and Elstow Road.

To date, all these works have been carried out while the road has been kept open, using temporary lane closures to minimise disruption.

Starting next week, the road will be closed overnight between Monday 4 October and Monday 18 October to enable the road to be resurfaced between Westville Rd and Elstow Rd.

There will be a diversion in place via A5134 West End, A5134 Progress Way, A5134 Mile Road and A600 London Road and vice versa.
