Welcome to the Christmas 2022 edition of SEND Matters!

I can’t believe that it is the Christmas edition already, it only feels like yesterday that we were putting the final touches to our Christmas 2021 edition! This is another bumper edition, filled with information on events, activities and support available this festive period, I hope that you find it informative and useful.

What a year 2022 has been, there has been a lot of turmoil in central government, there has been Education and SEND white and green papers that there is now uncertainty over, and we have had the biggest cost of living crisis to hit the country in decades. I have no doubt that this has been an extremely difficult year for us all and I want to recognise and thank all of the dedicated people who work with our amazing children and young people with SEND and the parents and carers who look after, nurture and support them, thank you.

This term has been an exciting one at Borough Hall as we have had our brilliant supported interns start with us. These 11 young people with EHCP’s are coming to the end of their first round of placements and I have been blown away by each and every one of them!

We are already looking at Year 2 (starting September 2023), so if you know of a young person aged 16-25 with an EHCP who may well be interested in undertaking a supported internship through our Project Search programme, then please save the dates of our information events on Tuesday 17 January 2023, from 6pm to 7.30pm, or Thursday 9 February 2023, from 12.30pm to 2pm, both at Borough Hall, further details to follow.

Finally, I want to wish you all a happy festive period, filled with love, laughter and friendship and I look forward to seeing you all in 2023.

Best Wishes,

Chris
