You can book your COVID-19 booster dose online if it’s been 5 months (152 days) since you had your 2nd dose and you are:
- aged 40 and over
- aged 16 and over with a health condition that puts you at high risk from COVID-19
- a frontline health or social care worker
You’ll be offered appointment dates from 6 months after the date of your 2nd dose
You can book your booster on the NHS website.
We are providing free Vaxi Taxis for people to get to and from their vaccine appointment. To get your free taxi ride, you just need to call one of the taxi operators from the list available on our website, give them the reference BBC VACCINE, and let them know where you need to be picked up and dropped off. You will not be asked to pay anything as long as your journey is from a Bedford Borough address, and is going to or from a Bedford Borough vaccination site.
Drop-ins for 12-15 year olds are also continuing this week at Bedford Heights on Manton Lane. These are taking place today, Saturday and Sunday at 4pm-5.30pm. Find out more about local drop-in sessions on the BLMK CCG website.
Green Bin Collections
Due to a national shortage of HGV drivers, the Council’s bin collection rounds are under unusually high pressure.
Priority black bin and orange recycling bins will continue to be collected as normal, while residents will experience a delay to their green garden waste bin collection.
While green bin collections do finish for winter at the end of November, crews will continue collecting into December if necessary to ensure everyone receives their final collection of the year.
If your green bin collection is missed, please leave it out in a safe area and we will collect it as soon as we can. Thank you for your patience.

We’ve now received funding through both public and corporate sponsorships and grant funding for over 110 street and celebration trees through our partnership with Trees for Streets.
Residents and businesses from across the local area have been taking part in the programme both individually and by coming together with neighbours, friends and family to sponsor either a tree on their street or a celebration tree in one of Bedford Borough’s award winning parks.
If you would like to sponsor a tree for your street, you have until Sunday 5 December to get involved.
Museum Shop Sunday returns to The Higgins Bedford this Sunday, 28 November, inviting the public to join in some festive shopping and free family Christmas crafts.
The Higgins Bedford shop has a range of bespoke and creative items inspired by the museum’s collections and exhibitions and offers the perfect opportunity for shoppers to purchase a unique Christmas gift for that special someone from 2pm – 5pm.
There is a wonderful selection of Christmas cards and greeting cards designed by artists and printmakers such as Tabitha Mary, Eric Ravilious, Edward Bawden and William Burges. The ever-popular advent calendars by Angela Harding and Emily Sutton are stocked alongside beautifully designed tea towels and notecards. Special gifts are available in the shop, including bespoke 1000 piece jigsaws designed from artworks in the collections, origami kits, tote bags featuring prints of the Cardington Sheds, toys and books ranging from Bedford’s heritage to artists in the collections.
Museum Shop Sunday is the first of a series of Sunday’s inviting families to take part in free family crafts designing paper stars to add to their Christmas decorations at home. Christmas crafts are on Sundays 28 November, 5 and 12 December. Booking is not required and families can visit anytime between 2pm – 4pm.
