When there’s no more life in your battery, it can still be positively dangerous…Throwing dead batteries away with other rubbish can turn them into dangerous zombies!
Zombie batteries hiding in rubbish or recycling are likely to be squashed, compacted, punctured, shredded or soaked in liquids. This can cause batteries to get very hot and ignite or even explode, resulting in fires that put the lives of collection teams and staff at waste and recycling facilities at risk.
Don’t run the risk of a dead battery coming back to haunt you this Halloween, we offer an easy way to recycle your household batteries, so please:
- Put your used batteries in a small, clear plastic bag and seal it when full.
- Place the sealed bag on top of your black or orange lidded bin or sacks on your normal day of collection.
Alternatively, you can find your nearest battery recycling point at www.takecharge.org.uk.
Make sure you also remove hidden batteries from electrical items such as electric toothbrushes or children’s toys if you can, before taking items to the Household Waste Recycling Centre on Barkers Lane or a local small electrical recycling drop off point.
