Easter Bin Collections, Recycling your Wrappers and Compost Bins

Easter bin collections

Bin collections continue as normal over Good Friday and Easter Monday. If your rubbish, recycling or green garden waste bin is due for collection on Friday or Monday, please place your bin out for collection as normal.

You can check your bin collection day using our online collection day finder.

Munch, scrunch and recycle your foil wrappers this Easter!

Easter 2022

This Easter don’t forget to recycle all that egg-stremely recyclable packaging! Simply munch your Easter treats and then scrunch any foil wrappers into a ball and pop it into the orange lidded recycling bin. It’s the same for those bigger eggs too, squash down boxes or plastic packaging before putting in the recycling bin.

Foil isn’t the only household metal material that can go into your orange bin. Keep recycling your empty food tins, drink cans and empty aerosols too. Give any empty tins a quick rinse first to get rid of any food residue, and pop the lid back inside before squashing so they take up less space.

For more information about what can go in your recycling bin please visit the recycling pages of our website.

Getting out in the Garden?

If you’re hoping to get out in the garden this Easter weekend why not clear a small patch for a compost bin. Composting at home is not only a great way to reduce the amount of waste thrown into your black bin, it also helps to create a great free compost for your garden. A 50/50 mix of greens (such as fruit and veg peelings, tea bags, grass clippings and plant pruning’s) and browns (such as leaves, twigs, bark, torn up egg boxes and crushed egg shells) is the perfect recipe for good compost.

To help get you started the Council offers compost bins at subsidised prices, for more information please visit the reduce, reuse and recycle page on our website.

If you are having a clear out in the garden or garage, you can take garden waste and unwanted household items to the Household Waste Recycling Centre on Barkers Lane.

The site is open from 9am to 5pm seven days a week, with last entry to the site at 4.50pm. Between 1st April and 30th September the site is open from 9am to 7pm on Saturdays. Last entry to the site on Saturdays is 6.50pm.

You no longer need to book an appointment, but a permit may be needed. To find out more about visiting the site, please visit the Household Waste Recycling Centre page on our website.
