Green Bins Paused for Winter and other Recycling Tips

As the nights draw in and temperatures drop, it’s approaching the time of year that we pause our green lidded bin collection service. If you’ve been putting off a garden clean-up please be aware that the last collections of green lidded bins in Bedford Borough will be at the end of November. Please check when your last green bin collection day will be by using our online collection day finder at www.bedford.gov.uk/bins.

Green-lidded bin collections are suspended each year from 1 December, restarting again on 1 March 2024. General waste and recycling collections will continue during this time. Keep an eye out online for the changes to bin collections over Christmas.

Give composting a go!

While garden waste collections are suspended over the winter months, why not give home composting a go? It’s easy to make with fallen leaves, cuttings from around the garden, and even uncooked food waste providing you with a rich compost to use around the garden and all for free! Did you get a treat this Halloween?

If you were lucky enough to get a sweet treat this Halloween, don’t forget to recycle any foil wrappers, scrunching them into a ball before popping into your orange lidded bin.

If you have any plastic sweet wrappers, collect these along with your other soft plastic packaging and drop them off at your local supermarket soft plastic recycling facility. Click ‘Where to recycle a specific item’, type ‘sweet wrappers’ into the search bar, and then enter your postcode.
