Half term fun!

Elmer the elephantIf you’re not as prepared for half term as you’d like, we’ve got you covered!

We’ll be offering free drop in crafts for children at all of our libraries, plus Lego Clubs, and Sunday Funday at Bedford Central Library. During the school holidays libraries run Story Times which don’t have age limits on them, so older siblings who would normally be at school can enjoy some stories and songs with their little brothers or sisters.

No need to book, and all activities are free. It’s also free to join the library at any age, so you can borrow a few books during your visit too.

Great Big Green Week

We’re looking forward to offering special activities to celebrate Great Big Green Week from Saturday 8 June to Saturday 14 June.

Members of the community can get their bikes serviced, take part in community litter picks, swap plants with other green fingered enthusiasts, or become ‘Air Quality Detectives’ with the Air Quality Engagement Officer. All sessions are free and we’re happy to be working with Corporate Safety & Commercial Regulation to make some of these activities possible.

Enjoy crime fiction

Crime bookJune is National Crime Reading Month, and whether you’re into cosy crime or police procedurals, we know just where you can get your crime fix!

All libraries have a ‘Crime and Thriller’ section dedicated to this popular genre, plus you’ll find thousands of e-books and audiobooks through the Libby and BorrowBox apps. Both apps are free to our library members- simply download and browse by genre or subject, or search for your favourite author. Borrow for free then titles are returned automatically.

Social prescribing at Bedford Central Library

A representative from Bedfordshire Rural Communities Charity (Beds RCC) will be at Bedford Central Library on 4 June 11am-4pm (and every other Tuesday after) to offer free support to anyone who needs it.

You’ll be able to speak with Lee about improving your health and wellbeing, as well as how to connect with your local community. There’s no need to make an appointment, and sessions are free and confidential. Find out more from Lee at lee.mcgrath@bedsrcc.org.uk or 07950 962373.
