Summer Reading Challenge Special

For children at all Bedford Borough Libraries

Join the Summer Reading Challenge! 

We are more than halfway through the Ready, Set, Read! Summer Reading Challenge, and a staggering 2,020 children have already joined and borrowed over 19,700 books! The Summer Reading Challenge runs until Saturday 9 September and children can still take part until then. It’s free to join and children can register during staffed hours throughout the summer at any library in Bedford Borough, including the mobile library. You’ll receive everything you need to get your child started, including a guide to how the challenge works. You or your child need to be a member of the library, but it’s free to join online or in the library.

Get rewards for reading! 

After they’ve registered for the Summer Reading Challenge, children can earn rewards for borrowing and reading library books during the school holidays. This year the theme is Ready, Set, Read! which encourages children to keep their minds and bodies healthy and active over the summer.

When they’ve read six books, they’ll get a certificate, another six will earn them a glow-in-the-dark bookmark, and reading a further six books rewards them with a medal. They can also complete a fun activity pack with scratch and sniff stickers!

Free craft activities every day of the holidays 

The fun doesn’t stop there! All libraries in Bedford Borough are offering free craft activities for children every day of the holidays, as well as other free sessions such as Lego Club and Story Time. You don’t need to book in advance, just come along and join the fun! Check our Facebook page, website, or your local library for dates and times.
