Love Libraries – July 2024

Bring the family in for special Story Times. Our regular Rhyme Time and Bounce and Rhyme sessions change during the holidays, so older brothers and sisters can join the fun too. There’s the usual songs and stories, followed by a craft.

Don’t forget to register children for the Summer Reading Challenge and borrow some books to gain rewards. It’s a great way to keep children reading over the school holidays when they can get out of the habit.

We are so excited to be hosting our very first Lego Discovery Day on Thursday 15 August at Bedford Central Library!

Delivered by GeTech, the day is aimed at introducing children to STEAM concepts and uses LEGO in a fun and engaging way to build and code a model so it moves. Children will work in pairs and parents will need to stay with them, but are welcome to get involved as well.

The Lego Discovery Day is free, but it must be booked in advance. Book using the button below- select August and scroll down to ‘Lego Discovery Day at Bedford Central Library’.

All our libraries are breastfeeding-friendly spaces, but we’re happy to now offer an additional private space at Bedford Central Library should parents or carers wish to use it.

Made possible by funding from the Town Centre Priority Fund, the library has created a dedicated baby feeding room on the second floor. This comfortable and private space provides a welcoming environment for parents and carers with young children visiting Bedford Central Library.

Speak to library staff if you’d like to use the room and they’ll be happy to direct you.

Our libraries offer a huge range of titles in a variety of formats. If you favour a paperback or hardback over reading from a screen, speak to library staff about extending your loan period until you return from holiday. You can always renew books using the library app, too.

If you’d rather save suitcase space and prefer e-books or audiobooks, try our free digital libraries. BorrowBox and Libby give library members free access to thousands of e-books, audiobooks, and magazines. New titles are added every month, and can be searched by genre or recently added.
