To accompany the Blunt Blades display, we invited members of the public and amateur writers to pen short stories inspired by the culturally significant objects in the display.

Over 40 historic examples of blades were chosen for these stories and they have been compiled into a publication.

Visitors can pick up a free copy of Tales of Blunt Blades from The Higgins Bedford.

The Mo-Joe Children’s Book Event

Saturday 4th December

Mo is a feisty, adventurous grandma who flies planes, parachute jumps, plays the bagpipes, sends monsters packing and is forever rescuing her beloved cat, Siamese Joe, who gets himself into all sorts of pickles.

Join Grandma Mo and Siamese Joe as they read fun stories about their adventures together. Suitable for ages 3-7.

Christmas Stars Workshop

Free Entry, No Need to Book

Pop into The Higgins Bedford and create your own Christmas paper star to add to your decorations at home.

Children must be accompanied by an adult.

There is no need to book for these Christmas craft activities, families can drop in anytime between 2pm – 4pm.

Tea Party Poetry

Join us for Tea Party Poetry, a free session of writing poetry alongside tea and treats in a small sociable group.

No experience needed to join, but these sessions are suitable for ages 16+.

Pop into The Higgins Bedford shop for a range of creative and unique items this Christmas.

There’s a wonderful selection of Christmas cards designed by artists and printmakers such as Tabitha Mary, Eric Ravilious and William Burges.

Special gifts are available in the shop, including bespoke 1000 piece jigsaws designed from artworks in the collections, origami kits and books.

New in the shop, a special treat for children with this festive recipe and colouring in book. Children can have fun colouring in the pages and then, with a bit of help from an adult, get cooking some delicious Christmas favourites.
