Our new Edward Bawden exhibition is opening Saturday 11 March

This new exhibition, selected from the many works Edward Bawden left to us in Bedford, explores how trains, planes, automobiles and the occasional boat are in so many of Edward Bawden’s works. The exhibition will include well-known prints, advertising campaigns and private commissions.

Discover Bawden’s linocuts depicting train stations visited on journeys around the country, as well as designs for adverts, featuring hot air balloons floating over beaches, pilots waving in biplanes and vicars driving through flocks of sheep.

Planes, Trains and Automobiles opens on Saturday 11 March in the Edward Bawden Gallery.

We are celebrating British Science Week with a range of free family-friendly science, technology, maths and engineering activities on Saturday 11 March.

The event’s theme is ‘Connections,’ and the activities will celebrate the connections between Bedford’s town centre museums and Bedford’s significant engineering heritage.

Bourns will be joining us for electric circuit-making workshops and visitors will have the opportunity to learn about and view Bourns’ semi-conductors close up.

Bedford Modern School will be in the foyer and courtyard conducting exciting science demonstrations and hands-on activities that include lasers, a plasma ball and microscopes.

Little Science Lab will be bringing dry ice volcanoes, and visitors will also be able to explore geology with Bedfordshire Geology Association.

Most of the activities run 11am – 4pm and are ‘drop-in,’ but places for the Little Science Lab workshops must be booked in advanced. For more information about the activities and to book a place, please visit The Higgins Bedford website.
