Edward Bawden & Me opens 17 February 2024

Edward Bawden & Me celebrates the work of Edward Bawden through the work of a new generation of artists. The art exhibition is curated by Bawden’s good friend, the illustrator and printmaker, Chris Brown, who invited a diverse group of thirty artists and makers to produce works inspired by Bawden. This new collection will be shown alongside the works from the Bawden archive at The Higgins Bedford and can be found in the ground floor Wixamtree and Connections galleries.

The Circus of Illustration, a collective of Bedford based artists, have been commissioned to produce new illustrations inspired by the Edward Bawden Archive that are on display in the first floor Edward Bawden Gallery.

On the Wings of a Wire Bird

A new exhibition opened earlier this month by multi-disciplinary artist Sophie Gresswell, On the Wings of a Wire Bird. This captivating showcase invites visitors to explore the rich tapestry of mixed heritage and intersecting journeys. Explore an array of thought-provoking artworks inspired from the artists home county of Bedfordshire and a residency to her grandfather’s birthplace on the island of St. Helena (a remote British island in the South Atlantic).

This new exhibition is in the Sir William Harpur Gallery and runs until 9 June 2024, entry is free.

Half-term Family Activities

Tuesday 20 & Friday 23 February

Join local artists and have a go at printing activities inspired by the works of artist, Edward Bawden. Booking essential. Workshops cost £5.50 per child and are suitable for ages five to twelve.

Sunday Crafternoon

Sunday 18 February, from 2pm and 4pm.

Come and join us for this monthly creative activity session for families. Children must be accompanied by an adult.

There’s no need to book and it’s free so just drop in!
