Batteries on binDid you know? We collect used household batteries for recycling, just follow these two simple steps:

  1. Put your used batteries in a small, clear plastic bag and seal it when full.
  2. Place the sealed bag on top of your black or orange lidded bin or sacks on your normal day of collection.

It’s that simple!

Hidden batteries could cause a fire

Hidden batteriesWhen we throw batteries in with our general rubbish or recycling, they can get crushed or punctured in the bin lorries. This releases chemicals which come into contact with the air, and can start a serious and dangerous fire.

This video, created by The National Fire Chiefs Council, shows how easily a fire from batteries can start.

There are batteries hidden in more items than you think, like kids toys, alarm clocks, vapes and electric toothbrushes.

Don’t let your battery cause the next fire!

Remove batteries from electrical products if you can before recycling, and recycle the batteries separately. If you’re unable to remove the battery, recycle it together with your old electricals at the Household Waste Recycling Centre on Barkers Lane or click below to find a local drop off point.
