Green garden waste collections

Garden waste collections resume from 1st March 2022, following the usual pause in this service over winter.
Please put your green garden waste bin out alongside your orange recycling bin by 6am on your next recycling day, and it will be collected every other week.
Garden waste can go in the green-lidded bin, including grass cuttings, plants and weeds, hedge clippings and more, check online for more information. Please make sure garden waste is placed into the green bin loose, not in bags.

In partnership with GetComposting.com, Bedford Borough Council is offering discounted compost bins for residents, helping your garden thrive towards its healthiest year yet. It might still be cold, wet and rather windy in the garden, but Spring is just around the corner, so what better way to prepare your garden than to start composting.

The process simply involves collecting your daily plant and food waste, along with any other organic materials you can find and popping them in your home composter. This can include grass cuttings, unwanted plants, organic kitchen waste such as fruit and vegetable peelings, tea bags, coffee grounds and even the contents of your vacuum. Together, these will naturally decompose over time in your compost bin to produce a ready-made mixture rich in nutrients to feed your soil and nourish your garden. It really is that simple, and it’s a great way to minimise waste in your household, which would otherwise go to in the black bin.
