Dear Resident,
We are writing to inform you that the Parish Council are working with the Bedford Borough Council Highways department to install average speed cameras along the Odell Road.
This stretch of road has seen persistent issues with vehicles travelling above the speed limit (30mph). Speeding continues to pose a risk to pedestrians, cyclists, and other road users. Following careful review and consultation with road‑safety specialists, average speed cameras have been identified as the most effective and consistent way to reduce these risks.
Why average speed cameras?
- They encourage steady, safe driving rather than sudden braking.
- They have a proven track record of reducing collisions and injuries.
- They help create a calmer, more predictable traffic flow for everyone.
An initial onsite meeting with the Highways Engineers is expected to take place by the end of January, this will be followed by an onsite feasibility study to establish the requirements for the installation.
Our aim is not to penalise drivers but to create a safer environment for the whole community. We appreciate your cooperation and understanding as we take this step to improve safety for residents, visitors, and all who travel through the area.
