Thank you to all Bedford Borough residents who have had their COVID-19 vaccination so far.
Please continue to:
- take a free test if you have symptoms and get the vaccine if you are 18 or over.
- self-isolate if told to do so by NHS Test and Trace.
- if you can, wear a face covering indoors, in busy places and on public transport and, where possible, keep your distance from people that you don’t live with.
- try to meet outdoors rather than indoors, and test twice a week with a rapid lateral flow test to keep your friends and family safe.
Drop-ins for COVID-19 vaccinations are available for everyone aged 18 or over in Bedford Borough, with no appointment necessary, at Bedford Heights, Manton Lane and at some pharmacies. If you had your first Covid vaccination on or before 10 June, you’re now due for your second dose. Make sure you get that crucial second dose to give you the best possible level of protection.

Oxford-Cambridge Arc residents can now go online and have their say on their vision for the future of the area as part of a newly launched 12-week digital consultation on the Spatial Framework.
The consultation aims to enhance the infrastructure, environment and new developments in the counties of Oxfordshire, Buckinghamshire, Northamptonshire, Bedfordshire and Cambridgeshire, with sustainability at its core.
This public consultation is the first of three that will guide a new Spatial Framework over the next two years, and this digital platform has been created to make it quick and accessible for people who live, work, and have an interest in the area to make their voices heard.
Comments received in the consultation will help create the Spatial Framework’s vision for the area to 2050, and will help guide local planning and investment decisions in four areas; the environment; the economy; connectivity and infrastructure; and place-making. Have your say today
The government is also establishing a new expert panel, to engage with local councils and communities, to advise on bringing forward sustainable economic and housing growth in the Arc with a primary focus between Bedford and Cambridge.

This Sunday, 8 August, Music in the Meadows is returning to the newly renovated Mill Meadows Bandstand.
Every Sunday for the next five weeks, there will be a two-hour performance of traditional bandstand music from 3pm to 5pm, with people invited to come and listen for free.

The renovation of the Bandstand was funded by the Government Towns Fund and saw this beautiful feature of Bedford’s Embankment fully refurbished and redecorated. The final item to be completed was the replacement of two sections of railings to match the originals, carried out by skilled craftspeople. The refurbishment will now ensure that the bandstand is available to use for many years to come.
Mayor Dave Hodgson said “I am really looking forward to opening the Bandstand on Sunday. It is great to see the Music in the Meadows event back to our riverside, it is always such an enjoyable event. Bring the family, pack a picnic and a blanket, and settle in for a great atmosphere.
“There is lots happening in Bedford this weekend, with the Bedford Flea at St Paul’s Square, Jamaican Independence celebrations and the Harriers Triathlon. With life slowly returning to normal, Bedford is always a fantastic place to visit with lots going on.
“While it is great to see these steps back to normality, remember COVID-19 has not gone away. Remember, it’s always safer to meet up with people outdoors, and if you haven’t already please make sure you get both doses of your COVID-19 vaccine as soon as you can.”
