H.E. Bates granddaughter Victoria Wicks will talk about his life, stories and essays set in our locality.
He was born in Rushden and gained inspiration from his life in this area, including walks in the
countryside around here. His books include The Darling Buds of May, Love For Lydia and My Uncle
Silas.
Victoria is a star in her own right – she played Sally Smedley in Drop The Dead Donkey, and also
appeared in The Mighty Boosh, Skins, Dr Who and The Imitation Game. She has also been in many
stage productions, especially those written by Howard Barker.
There will be an entrance fee of £5 which includes afternoon tea.
